This prompt showed up at a strange time in my life.
I recently lost my cat, she had been living with my ex, but that didn’t make her any less mine. She was the sweetest soul. Quiet, affectionate, intuitive in a way I can’t quite put into words. Losing her was not what I had ever thought of, I always imagined meeting her again and her just recognizing me but staying quite like “Its nice to see you after such a long time, I hope you are doing good” you know, the things that only a healthy mature kinda love would think or tell you? Cats definitely have that!! and It’s strange how an animal can hold such a presence in your life. I miss her, even though we already lived miles away before her passing.
Rest in peace Nandemo.
Anyway, I guess that already answers the question: I’m a cat person. But it’s not that simple, well at least not for me.
I’ve been lucky enough to spend time with both cats and dogs, and they really are as different as people say. Dogs are like living bursts of sunshine, cats are too- in their own way, but dogs are loud and innocent. They’re openly affectionate, often goofy, and they wear their hearts on their sleeves.. I mean- if dogs had sleeves. They’ll wait by the door for you, wagging their whole body just because you came back. How cute is that?? You are basically shown that you are loved in the loudest form and who does not like that?! it is very sweet.
Cats, meanwhile, are more subtle. Mysterious. Independent, but deeply loyal when they choose to be, *trust me! they really are! You can’t make a cat love you, they decide when, who, and how to love. And somehow, that makes it even more special. They do have varying personalities but cats dont really express their love like dogs do. My cat definitely loved me and I always felt so lucky, it was in the way she came up to me and started purring and kneading, brought presents that I didnt really like etc. You know what I mean? It was all very sweet.
According to some studies, people who prefer dogs tend to be more outgoing, energetic, and rule-following. Dog lovers often thrive in social settings and lean toward structure and routine.
Cat lovers, on the other hand, tend to be more introverted, curious, sensitive, and nonconformist. They’re comfortable with solitude, often drawn to quiet spaces and inner worlds. Read this on wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_people_and_dog_people?
I see parts of myself in both. Maybe that’s why I can’t pick a side?
I think, Dogs are heart-first, loud-love companions.
Cats are soul-first, quiet-love companions.
So when I’m asked “Cats or dogs?”
I think of the pure joy of a dog running toward me, and the quiet warmth of my cat curling up beside me after a long day.
And I say: both. Always both.
